Sfortunatamente, dopo diversi passaggi la raccolta venne in parte dispersa e dimenticata e solo in anni recenti \u00e8 stata oggetto di sporadici studi. <br>La mostra ha lo scopo di illustrare la collezione e lo studio alla base della sua ricostruzione e per queste ragioni \u00e8 divisa in due sezioni virtuali. Sono consultabili digitalmente i tre inventari storici \u2013 uno a stampa settecentesco e due manoscritti ottocenteschi \u2013 insieme alla pianta del palazzo dove la collezione era originariamente conservata, oggi sede dell\u2019Hotel Continental in via Banchi di Sopra. La seconda sezione propone una selezione di stampe organizzate secondo le scuole di provenienza \u2013 italiana, francese, fiamminga e tedesca \u2013 rispettando l\u2019ordinamento originale della raccolta. L\u2019obiettivo \u00e8 restituire la variet\u00e0 e la ricchezza delle opere, offrendo la possibilit\u00e0 di osservarle nel dettaglio grazie alla visualizzazione digitale ad alta risoluzione.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The prints of the Gori Pannilini collection were donated to the Municipality of Siena by Senator Augusto upon his death in 1877, so that they might be \u201cvisible in honor of art and for the decorum of the country.\u201d Unfortunately, after several transfers the collection was partly dispersed and forgotten, and only in recent years has it been the subject of sporadic scholarly studies.<\/em><br><em>The exhibition aims to illustrate the collection and the research underlying its reconstruction, and for these reasons it is divided into two virtual sections. The three historical inventories \u2013 one eighteenth-century printed inventory and two nineteenth-century handwritten ones \u2013 can be consulted digitally, together with the floor plan of the palace where the collection was originally housed, now the Hotel Continental on Via Banchi di Sopra.<\/em><br><em>The second section presents a selection of prints organized according to their schools of origin \u2013 Italian, French, Flemish, and German \u2013 respecting the original arrangement of the collection. The aim is to convey the variety and richness of the works, offering the opportunity to observe them in detail through high-resolution digital viewing<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<div class=\"exhibit-section padding-top-100 padding-bottom-40\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"anchor\" id=\"galleria-documenti\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<h2>Galleria documenti<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t<hr>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\n\n\n<p>Sono qui integralmente consultabili i documenti relativi alla collezione utili a ripercorrerne la storia. In particolare, i tre inventarii del 1784, 1879 e 1884 sono stati fondamentali per identificare le stampe ad essa appartenenti. Il primo \u00e8 un opuscolo a stampa anonimo, senza data, privo di altre informazioni e noto in soli due esemplari di 146 pagine che contiene la descrizione di 2.983 stampe, raccolte in 27 tomi, e 3.188 in 46 volumi, per un totale di 6.171 fogli. Il secondo \u00e8 un fascicoletto manoscritto di 12 carte, scritto nel novembre del 1879, che elenca circa 2.774 incisioni e 58 volumi.<br>Il terzo \u00e8 un inventario manoscritto che enumera 2.708 stampe sciolte e 61 volumi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Here it is possible to consult the documents relating to the collection, which are useful for retracing its history.<\/em><br><em>In particular, the three inventories of 1784, 1879, and 1884 were fundamental in identifying the prints belonging to it.<\/em><br><em>The first is an anonymous printed booklet, without a date and lacking further information, known in only two copies of 146 pages. It contains the description of 2,983 prints, arranged in 27 tomes, and 3,188 prints in 46 volumes, for a total of 6,171 sheets. The second is a small handwritten booklet of 12 leaves, written in November 1879, which lists approximately 2,774 engravings and 58 volumes. Giuseppe Porri e senatore Augusto de Gori (1884-1896)\" \/>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/a>\r\n\t\n\n\t\t<div class=\"exhibit-section padding-top-100 padding-bottom-40\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"anchor\" id=\"galleria-stampe\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<h2>Galleria stampe<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t<hr>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\n\n\n<p>Si offre in questa sezione una piccola scelta delle stampe della collezione suddivise per scuole, cos\u00ec come erano differenziate all\u2019interno dei tre inventarii. <br>La <em><strong>scuola francese<\/strong><\/em> \u00e8 esemplificata da quattro stampe di Jacques Callot, Jean Boulanger, Francois Ragot e Jacques Philippe Le Bas.<br>Per rappresentare la <em><strong>scuola fiamminga<\/strong><\/em> sono Jan van der Straet, Cornelis Cort, Aegidius Sadeler, Johannes Wierix, Jan Sadeler I, Hendrick Goltzius, Pieter de Jode I, Aegidius Sadeler II, Pieter Stevens.<br>Per la <em><strong>scuola tedesca<\/strong><\/em> ci sono incisioni di Albrecht D\u00fcrer, Luca di Leida, Heinrich Aldegrever e Theodor Kruger.<br>A esemplificare le numerose stampe di <em><strong>scuola italiana<\/strong><\/em> sono state scelte le opere di Francesco Curti, Giulio Carpioni, Giulio Bonasone, Iacopo Caraglio, Antonio da Trento, Maestro del Dado, Marcantonio Raimondi, Giorgio Ghisi, Diana Scultori, Francesco Villamena, Antonio Tempesta, Raffaello Schiaminossi, Remigio Cantagallina, Simone Cantarini e Stefano della Bella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This section offers a small selection of prints from the collection, divided by schools, as they were distinguished in the three inventories.<\/em><br><em>The <\/em><strong>French school<\/strong><em> is represented by four prints by Jacques Callot, Jean Boulanger, Fran\u00e7ois Ragot, and Jacques Philippe Le Bas. Representing the <\/em><strong>Flemish school<\/strong><em> are Jan van der Straet, Cornelis Cort, Aegidius Sadeler, Johannes Wierix, Jan Sadeler I, Hendrick Goltzius, Pieter de Jode I, Aegidius Sadeler II, and Pieter Stevens. Gli interventi di conservazione si sono svolti in vari passaggi, dal distacco delle stampe dalle controfondature, al lavaggio e pulitura, alla rimozione delle colle, alle operazioni di disinfezione da muffe e microorganismi, fino all&#8217;integrazione di lacune. Ulteriori operazioni di conservazione e valorizzazione, come il montaggio a vista delle stampe su passepartout non acidi, sono opera del restauratore Gianlorenzo Pignatti Morano (Calenzano, Firenze).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The restoration of the prints in the Gori Pannilini collection was carried out by Simone Martini (Florence) with regard to the paper materials, and by the firm L\u2019Arcolaio (Siena) for the prints on silk. The conservation treatments were conducted in several stages, from detaching the prints from their backing supports, to washing and cleaning, removing adhesives, disinfecting against mold and microorganisms, and finally integrating losses. Further conservation and enhancement operations, such as the visible mounting of the prints on non-acidic mat boards, were carried out by the conservator Gianlorenzo Pignatti Morano (Calenzano, class=\"anchor\" id=\"digitalizzazione\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<h2>Digitalizzazione<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t<hr>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\n\n\n<p>Il personale del Laboratorio di fotoriproduzione, attivo all\u2019interno della Biblioteca, ha curato l\u2019intera campagna di digitalizzazione della collezione Gori Pannilini. L\u2019attivit\u00e0 \u00e8 stata svolta in diverse fasi e ha compreso sia le riprese effettuate prima degli interventi di conservazione e restauro, sia quelle realizzate successivamente, al fine di documentare in modo completo lo stato dei materiali e gli esiti delle operazioni di recupero e tutela. A supporto di tali operazioni, il Laboratorio si avvale di dotazioni tecnologiche avanzate, tra cui tre scanner planetari \u2013 Zeutschel OS Q1, Bookeye 5 V2 Archive e Zeutschel Zeta Comfort \u2013 che permettono acquisizioni digitali ad alta qualit\u00e0 nel rispetto delle esigenze conservative dei materiali originali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The staff of the Photographic Reproduction Laboratory, operating within the Library, oversaw the entire digitization campaign of the Gori Pannilini collection. The work was carried out in several phases and included both the imaging performed prior to the conservation and restoration interventions and that undertaken afterward, in order to fully document the condition of the materials and the outcomes of the recovery and preservation processes. Si tratta di numeri e diciture che fanno riferimento agli inventarii del 1784 e del 1884. These consist of numbers and inscriptions referring to the inventories of 1784 and 1884.<\/em> <em>Two examples are illustrated below to help explain part of the identification work that was carried out.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Charles Audran<\/em><\/strong><em>, <\/em>Jupiter Directing the Winds<em>, first half of the 17th century, engraving, 270\u00d7380 mm. ottobre 1820 da Fabio Gori Pannilini e Francesca Pecci; studi\u00f2 giurisprudenza, si occup\u00f2 di economia e fu appassionato amatore delle arti. Figura di spicco tra la nobilt\u00e0 senese, ricopr\u00ec diverse cariche istituzionali tra le quali la presidenza della Camera di Commercio ma ebbe anche un ruolo rilevante nella vita politica extracittadina divenendo, nel 1861, senatore. La passione per le arti lo accompagn\u00f2 per tutta la vita: si fece promotore di diverse commissioni e donazioni, e a partire dal 1875 mise a disposizione \u2013 per visite pubbliche \u2013 la sua ricca raccolta di stampe antiche esposta nel palazzo di via Banchi di Sopra a Siena. Per sua volont\u00e0 \u2013 alla morte avvenuta nel 1877 \u2013 la raccolta di incisioni venne ceduta al Comune di Siena.<br>Il conte Augusto Gori Pannilini, nel busto di stucco di Giovanni Papini, \u00e8 ritratto in abiti di ordinaria eleganza: una giacca parzialmente abbottonata e con due taschini da uno dei quali spunta un libretto, la cravatta annodata intorno al colletto e, sulla spalla sinistra, il lembo di un mantello scivolato. La testa \u00e8 leggermente ruotata verso destra e lo sguardo \u00e8 attento ma non severo. Il busto \u00e8 quasi certamente un modello preparatorio, come lasciano intendere la materia e certi difetti di stabilit\u00e0 che in passato hanno concorso a rotture pi\u00f9 volte risarcite. L\u2019esecuzione dell\u2019opera deve essere verosimilmente assegnata alla mano dello scultore toscano Giacomo Giovanni Papini, il cui nome, affiancato dalla data, compare vergato a matita sul lato destro della base. Le notizie biografiche su Papini sono scarse, cos\u00ec come le sue opere conosciute; tra queste si ricorda il <em>Busto di gentildonna<\/em> conservato a Palazzo Pitti a Firenze, firmato e datato 1875. Il busto della Biblioteca comunale \u00e8 stato oggetto di un intervento di restaurato (2024-2025, Maura Masini) ed \u00e8 esposto nella sala di conservazione del Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe della Biblioteca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Augusto Gori Pannilini was born in Siena on October 12, 1820, to Fabio Gori Pannilini and Francesca Pecci. He studied law, engaged in economic matters, and was a passionate art enthusiast. A prominent figure among the Sienese nobility, he held various institutional positions, including the presidency of the Chamber of Commerce, and also played a significant role in broader political life, becoming a senator in 1861. His passion for the arts accompanied him throughout his life: he promoted several commissions and donations, and starting in 1875 he made his rich collection of antique prints, displayed in the palace on Via Banchi di Sopra in Siena, available for public visits. By his will, upon his death in 1877, the print collection was donated to the Municipality of Siena. Count Augusto Gori Pannilini is depicted in Giovanni Papini\u2019s plaster bust wearing attire of ordinary elegance: a partially buttoned jacket with two small pockets, one of which holds a booklet, a tie knotted around the collar, and the flap of a cloak draped over his left shoulder. The head is slightly turned to the right, and the gaze is attentive but not severe. The bust is almost certainly a preparatory model, as suggested by the material and certain stability defects that in the past contributed to multiple repaired breaks. The execution of the work is most likely attributable to the hand of the Tuscan sculptor Giacomo Giovanni Papini, whose name, accompanied by the date, appears in pencil on the right side of the base. Biographical information about Papini is scarce, as are his known works; among these is the Busto di gentildonna, preserved at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, signed and dated 1875.
